Empowering Asylum Seekers
Empowering Asylum Seekers
EUROPE | PROJECT UPDATE
Eurorelief's Resident Volunteer Program continues to be a powerful source of dignity and connection on the island of Lesvos, Greece. Asylum seekers are being invited to serve one another and are recognized as individuals with valuable God-given gifts. Resident volunteers serve as leaders, translators, mentors, and community builders for those waiting at the Closed-Controlled Access Center as they begin the asylum process. Twenty-seven asylum seekers participated in the program, and they are working to expand to 50 people this year.
"It's more than friendship—we are a family," shared Abdula, a recent arrival to Lesvos who came in search of hope and a future and joined the volunteer program. He also shared that he recently told his mother not to worry about him because he has found a new family through Eurorelief.
Asylum seekers participating in the resident volunteer program reclaim dignity and hope. Your generosity makes it possible to continue providing support and is empowering asylum seekers to serve one another with compassion.
