Building Communities of Peace in South Sudan

In South Sudan, decades of conflict, poverty, and displacement have left deep wounds and fractured relationships between neighbors, tribes, and families. Amid these challenges, the Evangelical Covenant Church of South Sudan and Ethiopia is creating a place of hope through the Walgak Church and Community Center. Led by local church leaders and sustained by the commitment of the Walgak congregation, this center is being built as a shared space for worship, peacebuilding, and community restoration.

The Walgak Church and Community Center will serve thousands of people a week. It will host initiatives focused on reconciliation between tribes, support for traumatized youth, care for widows, as well as providing opportunities for education and vocational development. Through holistic approaches, the church will continue to bear witness to God's love while addressing the practical needs of the community.

Community members contribute labor, materials, and leadership, reflecting their shared vision for peace and a future shaped by faith rather than fear. Together, they are building a foundation for healing, dignity, and hope in their community.
