Empowering Women in Mauritania
MIDDLE EAST NORTH AFRICA | PROJECT GOAL: $20,500
In Mauritania, women face immense challenges. Many are widowed or left to raise children alone due to divorce or polygamy, often living in poverty with limited access to education and healthcare, which leaves families fractured and children vulnerable. Yet a powerful vision for change is rising amidst these struggles. The Lumière De L’Espoir (Light of Hope) initiative, led by a woman from the very community it serves, is working to change the lives of women in Mauritania.
In 2023, a successful pilot project with 15 women demonstrated the incredible potential of empowering women to take charge of their futures. By 2026, the project aims to reach 150 women. Through literacy classes, psychosocial support, and economic empowerment, this initiative equips women with essential skills and resources to break free from cycles of poverty. Women receive training in crafts and agriculture, gaining access to micro-grants, savings programs, and family support that will increase their independence and create lasting stability for their families.
The impact does not stop there. This project also includes community awareness campaigns to challenge the gender inequalities that perpetuate these struggles. By investing in leadership development, Lumière De L’Espoir are building a network of empowered local leaders who will strengthen women’s support system long after the project ends.
Your gift will create opportunities for people, communities, and generations to heal and flourish.
Will you join women in Mauritania as they live out the good news of the gospel in their communities?
