Through a Merge trip 30 years ago, I had my first cross-cultural experience. That planted seeds that have continued to grow and bloom in various ways. After many years of working and as a foster parent with refugee and immigrant youth, I am moving in faith on a longstanding dream to live/work in an international context and to understand the realities of being the foreigner. Through the Global Immersion program, I will be working in San Juan la Laguna near beautiful Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. After a few months of school to improve my Spanish skills, I will partner with the experienced staff at Colegio Nuevo Amanecer to teach English and Tech courses. I look forward to learning from the community, continuing to work with young people and engaging with the local artisans weaving gorgeous textiles.
