Spread across this area of DR Congo are over 30,000 fish ponds and some 700 associations of fish farmers. The project aims to help fish farmers to raise the productivity of their ponds in this region with over 2,000,000 people that could benefit directly or indirectly from a viable fish production system. This includes fish producers, sellers of fish in the markets, farmers producing components for fish feed production, and business people supplying materials needed by fish farmers and others. Add to this the fact that consumption of farm-raised fish by local people, especially children, will be an important factor in improving nutrition and health in the region.
