Serving Better through Advanced Learning
We are excited to present FOWM Appeal #254: The Advanced Learning Fund. The inequity of access to education at all levels is obvious. How can we help leaders involved in God’s global mission go beyond their cultural minimum to address the growing gaps and injustices that they face? One of the goals of ALF is to bridge economic barriers for those outside “the system” so that leaders can develop with reflective skills appropriate to their contexts into more effective partnership with God’s purposes in the world.

This project, affectionately named ALF, will enable Covenant global personnel and international partners to pursue formal graduate education as part of their missional vocation wherever they are serving. Managed by the Center for World Christian Studies, ALF seeks to develop reflective practitioners who use their head, hearts, and hands for the sake of the gospel. ALF is not free money or simply a handout, but a sustainable fund regenerated by the contributions of recipients who sign a non-binding payment agreement. ALF will build a sustainable fund that will grow for the benefit of all future applicants. ALF is also a discipleship initiative to engender a lifestyle of stewardship and generosity in all recipients. This FOWM appeal will help kickstart ALF to help grow a revolving educational investment adequate to cover qualified requests and to provide necessary cash flow in a timely manner.

A final goal for ALF is to stay connected with these reflective practitioners and to share what is learned with others. A committee of advisors will monitor progress, encourage, and envision next steps in ministry with each recipient. These committees will be comprised of representatives from Serve Globally, CWCS, and the ministry located in the specific contexts of ministry. Recipients will share their learning with their committees and the hope is that this learning will be shared with the wider church.

Consider contributing generously to ALF so that sisters and brothers across cultures and around the world can become the leaders of thought and practice that they have been called to be.
